Popicalia #9

Settle down. Now let’s be serious for a moment. Popicalia #9 is imminent. I’m talking Friday, 6th May imminent. So close you can start ironing your best cardigan and slacks while you read about the bands on your enormous wide-screen megavision that you installed specifically to pass the time while ironing.
Tieranniesaur: A second appearance at the Popical monthly for the grooviest kids on the Island. Here be Annie Tierney’s disco monsters. Rarrr.
Ginnels: The first EVER live appearance by this indie Combiner (that’s a Transformers term: they were those giant Transformers made of other Transformers), cobbled together to make the noises originally made by Mark Chester (Grand Pocket Orchestra, No Monster Club). Those noises are curious and brilliant, as the self-titled album that appeared on Bandcamp a couple of months ago makes plain.
Seeping into Cinemas: Barry O’Brien’s songs tug on the heartstrings, but gently and not without asking if it’s okay. Gorgeous guitar arrangements and the spookily re-animated voice of Elliott Smith await the lucky attendees.
And, of course, we’ll round it off with some Popical Island DJs spinning the songs that belong.
So that’s it! The ninth edition, on a lovely early summer weekend.
